United States firm, Marathon Patent Group, announced that it installed 700 units of Bitcoin (BTC) mining application-specific integrated circuit, or ASIC, units.
According to a June 3 announcement, Marathon Patent Group installed 700 Whatsminer M30S+ ASICs produced by MicroBT. The company is also reportedly waiting for a delivery of 1,160 AntminerS19 Pro units produced by leading mining ASIC producer, BitMain.
In late March, Bitmain announced that it sold the first batch of Antminer S19s and S19 Pros within 24 hours after starting to accept orders. On June 1, the firm also announced the launch of its newest Antminer T19 features a SHA256 hash rate of 84 TH/second.
A company rich in hashrate
The Antminer S19 Pro boasts a hash rate of 110 TH/s and an energy efficiency of 29.5±% 5 J/TH. That means Marathon Patent Group is waiting to add 127.600 PH/s to the hashrate under its control. Summed with the 70,000 TH/s coming from its 700 Whatsminer M30S+ ASICS (100 TH/s each), this will result in the company having a total hashrate of 197.600 PH/s.
The announcement comes shortly after Ripple SBI Asia CEO Adam Traidman predicted that the mining industry will continue to see hashrate migrate from east to west. He also stated that he is already witnessing the transition begin.

Over 75% of Bitcoin in Circulation Are in Profit
Latest figures show that over three quarters of all existing bitcoin (76.05%) are in profit, meaning that the value is currently higher than last time it was moved. While this ratio fluctuates, historically it has remained above 50% for almost the entire history of Bitcoin. HODLing Bitcoin Pays Off As may be expected, there is a strong correlation between the ratio of bitcoin currently in profit and BTC price. During periods when bitcoin price has been pushing upwards to all-time and local highs then of course, profitability numbers will increase. Similarly, in the periods when price crashes following price highs, the percentage of bitcoin in profit will go down. Although, notably, rarely to lower than 50%, and never to less than 40%. Boom and bust cycles saw profitability numbers dip below half of all bitcoin in 2011, 2015 and 2019, towards the very bottom following the crash. However, the lowest ever recorded value was still 40.5%, following the crash from over $1,100 down to $226. Even then, over 40% of bitcoin held was still in profit, showing both the benefit…

IBM Files A Blockchain Patent For Fighting Package Theft By Drone
IBM has filed for a patent of a system that uses blockchain technology to prevent drone-enabled package theft. According to a filing published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on Nov. 12, IBM will track drone altitude using an Internet of Things (IoT) altimeter, while continuously uploading that data to a blockchain secure platform. Drones might be a thief’s perfect tool It might become ordinary for drones to be used for stealing packages in the future. The idea is that packages will be outfitted with an altitude sensor that is set to trigger an alarm if a significant altitude change is measured outside of the preset criteria. Once the alarm is triggered, the GPS-enabled IoT device will transmit its exact location data to a tracking module. It’s like giving your Amazon packages a way to call SOS when something goes wrong en route to your house. IBM’s patent describes unattended delivery of packages that can leave items vulnerable to theft and other destructive behaviors after the package is delivered and before it is received. The patent goes…

$120 Million in Tether Was Just Minted, and That’s Big for Bitcoin
While the size of Bitcoin’s community has been shrinking over the past few months, one part of the crypto industry has been consistently growing: the market capitalization of Tether’s USDT, the leading dollar stablecoin. The cryptocurrency, now the fourth-largest by market capitalization, has been responding to an increase in demand over the past few weeks, with Twitter account Whale Alert tracking a series of transactions indicating USDT is in high demand. Just today, on April 18th, it was reported that yet another $120 million worth of the stablecoin was minted. That, analysts say, could be big for Bitcoin and the rest of the crypto market moving forward. NBA Would Open Pandora’s Box by Awarding Houston Rockets a Win via Protest
The Houston Rockets plan to protest their double-overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Referees incorrectly ruled off a made dunk from James Harden. If the NBA overturns the result, it would create a dangerous precedent. The Houston Rockets are reportedly hoping the NBA overturns the San Antonio Spurs’ 135-133 double-overtime victory Tuesday. Referees mistakenly did not count a James Harden-made dunk in the fourth quarter. According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, [The Rockets] are hopeful the league office will either award the victory to Houston due to the Rockets outscoring the Spurs in regulation or order that the final 7 minutes, 50 seconds be replayed at a later date. While the Rockets are rightfully miffed about the play in question, the NBA would open a Pandora’s box by awarding them a victory because of one blown call. Early in the fourth quarter, Harden soared in for a breakaway dunk, which would have given the Rockets a 15-point lead. However, the net whipped the ball back up onto the rim, and it clanged off the side of the basket. The refs…

Halving Sell-Off Temporary, BTC to Hit $20,000 by Year End, Says Billionaire Investor Novogratz
Bitcoin (BTC) may not have pumped at the scale expected by many halving optimists, but Wall Street billionaire Michael Novogratz insists that the price will hit $20,000 by year-end. The Galaxy Digital founder and chief executive officer on Monday told CNBC that bitcoin’s surge was inevitable in light of the record money printing by world central banks. “The (Bitcoin) halving was quantitative tightening,” Novogratz explained, noting the new coronavirus inspired stimulus packages, which have pumped trillions of dollars into world economies overnight. “It’s like an exclamation point on the macro story of why scarce assets like bitcoin should go higher. We will take out $10,000 and we will go to $20,000 by the end of the year. I feel real confident about it,” he asserted. BTC fell as much as 1.4% to $8,620 in the wake of its third halving last night. Pre-halving expectations favored a significant price increase. The cryptocurrency rose past $10,000 in the run-up to the event, which cut miner rewards by 50%, as investor sentiment reached fever-pitch. However, the price dropped at least 15% over the…

Brazil‘s tax agency, the Department of Federal Revenue (RFB), published a new tax code that specifies fines for taxpayers who fail to declare their Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrency transactions. On Dec. 6, Cointelegraph Brasil reported that the new crypto tax code is a further follow-up to provisions made by the RFB in August that require Brazilian citizens to report all transactions involving cryptocurrencies, in accordance with rules established by Normative Instruction 1,888 introduced in May 2019. The already implemented tax code applies to individuals, companies and brokerages, and includes all crypto-related activities, including buying and selling, as well as donations, barters, deposits, withdrawals and others. Those who fail to file a statement on their crypto transactions will be subject to penalties ranging from 500 Brazil reals (BRD) to 1500 BRD, or from $120 to $360. In August, Cointelegraph reported that RFB believes that the cryptocurrency market in Brazil has more investors than Brazil’s second-oldest stock exchange, B3, which reportedly had about 800,000 customers at the time. RFB almost ran out of money At the beginning of September, Cointelegraph Brasil reported…
