Twitter Takes Action Against Trump’s Posts
2) The most interesting issue in the business world right now is how the big social media companies are responding to the increasing scrutiny they’re under for the content that’s posted on their sites.
Until recently, all of them allowed pretty much anything, using the legal shield of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. But then Twitter (TWTR) broke ranks, taking action against a few of President Donald Trump’s posts… earning his ire and that of his supporters. Many have called on Facebook (FB) to take similar steps, but CEO Mark Zuckerberg has so far refused.

Here’s a link to a thread Twitter just posted, defending its decision. Excerpt:
Zuckerberg And His Thinking
And here are two articles about Zuckerberg and his thinking:
On some level, the dispute between top executives and the walkout participants is intractable – you either think Trump’s post should have come down, or shouldn’t have. But if you assume there will be many more decisions like this to be made in the run-up to the U.S. presidential election, as I do, it’s valuable to understand how Facebook justifies and communicates its policy decisions.
My take: with both Republicans and Democrats calling for a repeal of the blanket exemption from Section 230, it appears clear that the social media giants are going to have to move in the direction Twitter has taken. I think this will end up being good for humanity – the toxic status quo is simply untenable – but we’ll need to be vigilant to protect free speech.

Ranked 19 on the crypto assets leaderboard, NEO is also known as the Chinese version of Ethereum. Although being 96 percent down from it’s an all-time high of ~$200, the token still has been a hit amongst traders off late. The question is can NEO really prove to be a winning investment next year? Let’s see. When the Chinese President Xi Jinping, called blockchain technology, an “independent breakthrough” for independent innovation, crypto markets pumped. Chinese altcoins were the most conspicuously pumped lot. NEO, in particular, broke out of it’s 4-month long bearish stance and surged from $7 to $12. It again pumped after roughly two weeks, on the back of renewed trading interest. But since then, the altcoin has experienced declining interest and has descended to its May lows. But, despite the gloomy market outlook, NEO has great potential to be a top-performing crypto asset in the next year. Singapore’s plans to exempt certain digital currencies from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) would benefit cryptocurrency-related businesses, according to a partner in PwC Hong Kong’s corporate tax practice. As reported by Hong Kong’s English language newspaper South China Morning Post on July 29, Gwenda Ho argued that the Singapore government’s proposal to drop the seven per cent GST for cryptocurrencies when using them to pay for goods and services would have a positive impact on crypto exchanges, asset managers and blockchain entrepreneurs. Per Ho, the adoption of the proposed law would also put Singapore’s sales tax regime on an equal footing with those of other jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, Switzerland, and the European Union. Ho stated that, as long as the token has the features of a digital payment token as defined by the rules, such proceeds from initial coin offerings could also be exempted from GST. Ho continued: “While this proposal would improve Singapore’s competitiveness in its GST treatment on cryptocurrencies, Hong Kong in comparison is completely free of any sales tax so there is one less tax issue to be concerned about for cryptocurrency industry…Jul 30, 2019
Bitcoin hater Peter Schiff believes that speculators will start dumping bitcoin after the pot stock crash. The crypto asset and pot stocks do not have a correlation. Schiff’s argument stands defeated given that the two assets have entirely different characteristics. Peter Schiff doesn’t like bitcoin. He gets really happy whenever the price of the flagship cryptocurrency takes a hit. In fact, the market bear does not let go of any opportunity to take a swipe at the crypto asset, hoping that his actions will bring more hurt to cryptocurrency enthusiasts. His latest ploy to bring down bitcoin is comparing the cryptocurrency to pot stocks. Source: Twitter Schiff justifies his hatred for bitcoin using pot stock meltdown Schiff, who is the CEO of Euro Pacific Capital, says that bitcoin will eventually follow the path of pot stocks. He believes that the rally in pot stocks seen earlier this year was driven by speculators, who were also buying the crypto asset. The pot stock rally went bust in recent months. This is evident from the sharp decline in the U.S. Marijuana Index…Nov 18, 2019

Love was in the air for some this week, as Friday marked St. Valentine’s Day, beloved of lovers everywhere. The less romantically inclined may have been watching the bitcoin price charts from behind the sofa and biting their nails. Bitcoin Price: Will it, won’t it? It’s been a bit of a will it, won’t it a week for bitcoin price. Stay above $10k, that is. After breaking into five figures again last Sunday, there was a lot of optimism that this time it could be for good. Would prices surge like last time bitcoin broke $10k? Not immediately, at any rate. A dip on Monday that lasted into Tuesday took prices back below that psychologically significant level, at one point pushing bitcoin down to $9750. But while prices were down, Google searches for ‘Bitcoin’ were up, over 33% up in the last week. Fundstrat’s Thomas Lee even popped up again, to claim that Bitcoin could almost triple this year, and beat the Dow Jones index to $40k. Then in the space of an hour on late Tuesday afternoon, the price…Feb 16, 2020
A blockchain data mining company claims to have cracked Coinbase’s cold wallet system to conclude they hold nearly 1 million bitcoin, some 5% of the total supply. “Coinbase has constructed a cold wallet library composed of many 8,000 ~ 10,000 BTC addresses,” they say. With this already assumed as there’s an unusual number of “perfect” 10,000 BTC addresses and even more of ₿5,000, but what is astonishing is their hot wallet system. “Coinbase’s hot wallet is very interesting. Unlike other exchange’s hot wallets, which are a fixed address or several fixed ones, Coinbase’s hot wallet is a one-time use,” says Li Ye, technical lead at Chain.info. Most exchanges keep all their coins in one cold wallet address, with extreme measures then taken to protect the private key of that address. Coinbase probably Shamir chops the private key and then chops the cold wallet itself into many addresses and then perhaps sends it off to some Swiss bunker. The hot wallet bit however is a finding because it suggests they must be using a very complex and sophisticated system to keep…Jan 25, 2020
