Indian Province Trials Blockchain for P2P Solar Energy Trading » The Merkle Hash
Real-world use cases for blockchain technology can be found all over the world. In India, the state of Uttar Pradesh will allow for blockchain-based solar energy trading.
India can become a crucial region regarding the development of blockchain technology.
Peer-to-peer Trading of Solar Energy
One of the country’s newest ventures focuses on the trade of solar energy.
Two state-owned solar energy companies in the state of Uttar Pradesh will begin utilizing blockchain technology to that extent.
It is the first pilot project involving solar energy generated by state government buildings.
The first phase of this pilot project will begin in March or April of 2020.
Once the results of this solar energy trading become apparent, the involved parties will determine if it is a viable option to explore further.
Introducing the peer-to-peer trading of this energy through blockchain technology provides many benefits.
In an ideal scenario, it will cut out the middleman altogether and lower costs.
Moreover, it can provide solar energy to those who need it, rather than letting it go to waste.
All of this is made possible with the help of PowerLedger and India Smart Grid Forum.
Regardless of this venture’s success, India will push forward where solar energy is concerned.
The government wants to install 40 Gigawatt of electricity-generating hardware in the country by 2022.
Globally, the quest to find renewable energy sources remains in full effect.
More and more ventures focusing on solar-based options have become apparent across the Eastern and Asian region over the years.

The Dow cheered manufacturing data, but when GM’s contributions were excluded it wasn’t all that exciting. Boeing may tank economic data in the months to come. While the economy appears to be on steady ground, investors would be wise to exercise caution. U.S. manufacturing data took the Dow meaningfully higher this week as the figures beat expectations. While factory output shows that manufacturing has roared back to life, it may not have been quite as positive as it seems. What’s more, this could be its last positive reading for some time as the sector looks likely to face several obstacles in the months ahead. By the Numbers On Tuesday, U.S. factory data showed that manufacturing production and total industrial production was up 1.1% in November. The rise was a pleasant surprise after September and October declines. Source: The Federal Reserve November’s increase was the largest the U.S. has seen since October 2017, which sent the Dow higher in the early hours of Tuesday. While that’s certainly impressive, it’s worth noting that a big part of that increase was due to…Dec 19, 2019
Sheila Warren is the Head of Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology at the World Economic Forum. Sumedha Deshmukh is a Project Specialist on the Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology team at the World Economic Forum. The opinions expressed here are their own. If the last few years have taught us one thing, it’s this: users are not magically protected as technology evolves. Rather, user protection is something that occurs as the result of intention, commitment and deliberate design. Without this dedication from the outset, the trajectory of a technology’s development can, and often does, carry significant and far-reaching consequences. As blockchain pursuits move from buzzword to business case, the technology is fast-approaching an inflection point. With $12.4 billion in projected spending by 2022 and high-profile announcements from actors like Facebook, central banks and global mining and metals companies, the decisions made by builders today will have ripple effects on significant swaths of the population for years to come. In fact, blockchain has already experienced the consequences of not designing with the rights of users in mind. In 2017 and 2018,…Jan 20, 2020
FinTech startup Ripple announced today that they are capping off a “record” year with a $200 million Series C fundraising round, which was completed in hopes of providing them with more flexibility to help continue building their operations on a global scale. This fundraising round comes concurrently with significant community criticism of the company’s regular market sales of XRP tokens, which has been largely looked upon as the impetus of the lackluster price action it has seen throughout 2019, and especially in the first half of the year. Ripple Closes Massive Fundraising Round in Hopes of Fueling Growth Ripple announced the close of their Series C fundraising round in a recent blog post, in which they note that it was led by Route 66 Ventures and SBI Holdings, who are both long-term partners that will help the company continue its rapid global expansion. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse spoke about this within the blog post, boasting about Ripple’s growth in the face of dire market conditions that have led many companies to shut down their operations. “We are in a strong…Dec 21, 2019
Twitter Facebook reddit Pinterest Hacker News LinkedIn Tumblr Google+ VKontakte Twitter Facebook reddit Pinterest Hacker News LinkedIn Tumblr Google+ VKontakte French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire warned that his country wants to prevent Facebook Libra development in the European Union due to concerns about its risk to national governments’ ‘monetary sovereignty’ and potential abuse, the BBC reports. Le Maire made the comments during a Paris meeting of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. “This eventual privatization of money contains risks of abuse of dominant position, risks to sovereignty and risks for consumers and for companies,” Le Maire said. He also pointed to the ‘systemic risk’ Libra could represent, due to the sheer size of Facebook’s user base: “Libra also represents a systemic risk from the moment when you have two billion users. Any breakdown in the functioning of this currency, in the management of its reserves, could create considerable financial disruption. All these concerns about Libra are serious. I therefore want to say with plenty of clarity: in these conditions, we cannot authorize…Sep 15, 2019

Trader and analyst Luke Martin claims that XRP is significantly undervalued when compared to other major alt coins. Martin’s position reflects the volatility of the present cryptocurrency market, and indicates that far more capital is expected to enter the space soon. Is XRP Really Falling Behind? Martin, a veteran analyst, notes that major alt coins tend to move together within the market. Traders have followed this well-known phenomenon for several years. Using this knowledge, Martin notes that XRP has yet to move up in price in concert with the other most valuable alts, notably Ethereum. Earlier today Martin tweeted: $XRP should be around 30% higher. Every other major altcoin has reached the neckline. Most already had their breakout. — Luke Martin (@VentureCoinist) February 12, 2020 XRP’s value has not moved significantly since Martin’s statement, although some platforms have begun a bit of retracement over the past few hours. Whereas Martin has presented a well-informed analysis, it is worth noting that crypto markets are experiencing their most volatile activity in over six months. No global stablecoin project will begin operation in the European Union (EU) until the associated risks to monetary sovereignty are addressed, according to EU authorities. In a joint statement adopted by the Council of the European Union and the European Commission (EC), the Council and the Commission admitted that stablecoins may be effective at providing cheap and fast payments, but they have far more risks and challenges. The statement was approved by the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), one of the oldest configurations of the Council, on Dec. 5, based on the data in an official document released in late November. It’s not clear whether the new statement will somehow affect any further course of action or would become the basis for anything legally binding. Cointelegraph contacted the Council’s press officer for comment but the representatives available were evasive. Stablecoins’ potential to facilitate cross-border payments vs associated risks In their statement, the EU authorities have outlined multiple risks and issues associated with adoption of stablecoins — digital currencies pegged to another asset to prevent volatility usually seen in cryptocurrencies….Dec 6, 2019
In a bid to establish its authority as one of the biggest players in the crypto space, leading cryptocurrency exchange and Bitcoin (BTC) trading venue, Gemini, the Winklevoss twins-led exchange, has become the first exchange to pass the Deloitte SOC 2 Type 2 security examination. In a statement, released on its official website, the exchange reiterated the fact that no other exchange in the world has been able to match its feat in terms of the security of the crypto space. What is SOC 2? It can be applied for regulatory purposes to cover business areas outside of financial reporting. The report can then be distributed to customers and other stakeholders to demonstrate a focus on the system and processing control to meet their requirements.
