Any cryptocurrency exchange is always subject to intrusion. Coincheck, a Japanese platform, found that out the hard way once again.
Suffering from a data breach is never fun for a company.
Coincheck may Have Been Breached Again
This is especially true if said company controls user funds on a daily basis.
For Coincheck, it seems as if a new intrusion has taken place.

Here’s why. Bitcoin Needs to Hold $7,400? Libra denies all claims of it being a threat to financial stability |
Libra Association’s Chief Operations Officer (COO) Bertrand Perez denies claims calling Libra a threat to financial stability. Is Libra a threat to financial stability? No according to Bertrand Perez. He insisted that Libra will not be a threat to financial stability maintained by central banks. He stated that Libra would be dependant on central banks and not the other way around. He said that Libra is backed by a pool of various fiat currencies and government bonds. Therefore central bank monetary policies will influence the currency through the pool while Libra would have little effect on central banks. He believed that such claims were not justified. He also elucidated about which currencies were included in the pool. The pool consisted of the US Dollar, euro, yen, pounds, sterling, and Singapore dollar. Notably, the Chinese yuan was absent from the reserve. He then explained that the reserve would invest in these currencies as well as short-term government debts. The debts would be no longer than one year. Moreover the government debt would only be from countries of those currencies. The reserve…

Bitcoin and Gold: Evaluating Hard-Cap Currencies in Times of Financial Crisis
How would a bitcoin economy react to coronavirus? For now, we don’t know. However, we can turn to a proxy for insight: gold. Bitcoin’s “digital gold” narrative has stuck well, namely because of the cryptocurrency’s low issuance supply schedule and a hard cap of 21 million bitcoins. In turn, theory on how a gold-based economy would react to an external shock such as the current global pandemic lends itself into a look at a future bitcoin economy. As CoinDesk reported Monday, both bitcoin and gold rose on news of the U.S. Federal Reserve extending an indeterminate amount of aid to the private market. From a supply perspective, both assets sit still while the Fed feverishly tries to outpace COVID-19. “The Federal Reserve will continue to purchase Treasury securities and agency mortgage-backed securities in the amounts needed to support smooth market functioning and effective transmission of monetary policy to broader financial conditions,” the central bank said Monday. With such a policy’s incumbent inflation concerns – where infinite supply depresses the value of the U.S. dollar – what would an alternative world…

“Ethereum Foundation to Stop Funding Most Internal Teams” Says Dev
A coder that has been working at the Ethereum Foundation (EF) for years says their funding stopped on December 1st. “Other projects’ funding will also have their funding cut in the following year,” Nina Breznik (pictured standing), an eth developer said after adding: “Ethereum Foundation is planning to stop funding for most of the internal teams in the next year. I joined about 3 years ago and was working for 2 years on Remix and then in the last year on PlayProject.” Joseph Schweitzer, who says he works as Communications Lead at the Ethereum Foundation, publicly stated the above is “completely untrue” and called Breznik’s statements “vengeful.” Asked to clarify what exactly was untrue, Hudson Jameson who is in charge of dev relations at EF, disputed that “they decided to stop funding the youngest projects first.” He said “I don’t see examples of this in the EF.” In response Breznik said: “I assumed they start with the youngest first. But you are right. They said all will have to get defunded in the future but they didn’t say what pattern…
