Bitcoin (BTC) hitting highs of $10,300 this week isn’t a breakout and investors should brace for losses, renowned analyst John Bollinger has warned.
In a tweet on June 2, the Bollinger Bands indicator creator said that the largest cryptocurrency’s brief trip to three-month highs was an anomaly.
Bollinger to traders: be cautious or short
According to charts showing Bollinger band behavior for BTC/USD this week, the spike above $10,300 took the pair into territory which normally dictates an upcoming bull run.
Bollinger bands use two standard deviations to plot a boundary above and below a simple moving average price. Normally, this is the 20-day moving average.
When an asset price breaks out of the space between the two bands, the event suggests that volatility up or down is incoming. This behavior tends to be preceded by a narrowing of the band contours.
Bitcoin had stuck rigidly to the range between the two bands in May, indicating lower volatility. For Bollinger himself, there was no reason to heed the hint that this week’s breakout was genuine.

Bitcoin’s own riot?
The indicator has previously shown efficiency in tracking Bitcoin bull and bear cycles, with the start of 2020 proving to be no exception. December saw a narrowing of the bands, followed by sustained upside as this year began.
Bollinger’s warning comes as Bitcoin appeared to gain from unrest in the United States and a drop in the value of the dollar. As Cointelegraph reported, the panic also fuelled gold, while any major gains for Bitcoin could rest on how events continue to unfold.
Fundamental strength is slowly recovering from weakness last month, with miner participation set to continue improving after a second negative difficulty adjustment in two days’ time.

Upbit hack stolen funds see active once again as the hackers seem to be moving funds as reported by Whale Alert on Twitter. Upbit hack Upbit hack that occurred in November this year saw over 340,000 ETH stolen by hackers. Since stealing the tokens, the hackers have been dividing the sum into batches of 1,000 and 10,000 tokens and moving them to unknown wallets. The main aim seems to be liquidating the tokens without raising suspicion. Now the hackers have moved 2,000 Ethereum tokens to an unknown wallet. It is believed that the hackers are testing the waters to see whether a dump through Binance is possible or not. Exchanges can easily blacklist addresses on the blockchain so that these addresses become unable to trade with the exchange platform. Binance generally allows users to receive tokens on an exchange address from an external address. However, it is unknown if Binance intends on taking action against the address. Although the Upbit hack might be relatively quiet recently, the transfer of funds is still going on. However, it seems that the hackers…Dec 25, 2019
WWE 2K21 appears to have been canceled in the aftermath of the disastrous launch of its predecessor. WWE 2K20 was the first game in the series to be mostly developed by Visual Concepts, rather than co-developed with Japanese studio Yuke’s. Given how awful that game was, this is absolutely the right decision. Since the 1990s, the WWE series has filled an important void in the gaming industry. What other title gives kids and adults alike the opportunity to step into the underpants of their favorite wrestlers? Assuming that’s your thing, you’ll be quite disappointed to learn there won’t be a WWE 2K21 this year. Then again, maybe it’s not so disappointing. After all, WWE 2K20 was absolutely abysmal. If the new game was going to be the same, then it’s for the best that we didn’t get another one. Source: Twitter WWE 2K21 Was Probably Another Disaster in the Making If you didn’t have the displeasure of playing WWE 2K20, then you’re supremely lucky. The game was famously broken and buggy, sometimes hilariously so. While it made for excellent YouTube…Apr 24, 2020
Public offices in China can no longer use Microsoft and other foreign software by 2022. China banned Windows 8 in 2014 due to security concerns, it’s not something new. Microsoft’s China business relies on helping Chinese businesses move overseas, won’t affect the U.S. giant all too much. Over the next three years, offices of public institutions and government agencies in China have to replace foreign software and equipment. That means, no more Microsoft for public offices by 2022. China Orders Public Offices to Remove US Software The abrupt decision of the government of China to essentially ban the usage of American software and computer equipment companies for state-funded offices moves in line with the Made in China 2025 initiative issued by Premier Li Keqiang in 2015. Four years ago, China established an ambitious vision to move away from manufacturing cheap goods to higher-value products. It focuses on sectors like automotive, aerospace, IT, and robotics, which China has struggled to dominate in recent years. The move to eliminate China’s dependence on tech giants like Microsoft, Dell, and HP indicates that the…Dec 9, 2019
A Discord chat has been opened for those that want to re-create the Ripple network, essentially forking XRP. But so far, only a handful of posters have replied, and the general attitude is skeptical. Ripple Keeps XRP Price Low? The community of XRP owners has shown displeasure with the practice of Ripple to sell some of its 55 billion stash of coins each month. Some believe that XRP would command a higher price if the founding company abstained from selling. The talks of a hard fork started a few days ago, after Ripple unlocked one billion XRP, and awarded 100 million XRP additionally to Jed McCaleb, one of the co-founders of the protocol. Finally, Twitter personality @Crypto_Bitlord made the call for a hard fork, to create a mirror asset to XRP. Proud to announce the #RippleOne discord channel has opened! Bitcoin (BTC) trudged closer to $7,600 on Jan. 6 after an overnight dip failed to trigger a sustained sell-off. Cryptocurrency market daily overview. Source: Coin360 BTC range suggests few surprises Data from Coin360 and Cointelegraph Markets put the largest cryptocurrency back over the $7,500 mark on Monday, with 24-hour highs hitting $7,550. Previously, BTC/USD had lost support at $7,450 and fallen to lows of $7,330, but support at those levels appeared stronger and allowed markets to bounce upwards. The effect was Bitcoin filling another “gap” in futures markets, this time at $7,385. At press time, the pair traded at around $7,530, challenging what Cointelegraph analysts believe will be a major area of resistance. Asensys, a next-generation, high-performance blockchain system, emerged from stealth mode today with the launch of their new website. The project’s technology brings throughput and state capacity to a new, scalable level. In Asensys, workloads are distributed across consensus zones. There is no accumulating increasing workload on individual nodes. Any node with moderate bandwidth and computation can join the network as a part of the network. A commonly-held explanation for blockchain’s scalability problem is that either decentralization or security must be sacrificed to achieve high performance. Asensys Founder, Dr. Brendon (JiaPing) Wang, led research to debunk this theory that culminated in the development of Asensys. “What we discovered through comprehensive research and analysis, is that the limitations of scalability in blockchain networks are not based on the type of consensus algorithm deployed, as many would believe, but on the fact that every single node must duplicate the entire network each time a new block is added,” explained Wang. “This built-in over-redundancy is what prohibits blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum from improving performance and reaching the throughput required to meet the demands…Jan 31, 2020
The next Bitcoin halving remains the predominant story of bulls hoping for huge price gains. The popular line of thought is that the price of Bitcoin could increase, as crypto enthusiasts warn of an increase that adds to the pressure on prices. However, its price may increase. The expected halving testifies to this dream and its coming in the blockchain of the BTC in May, while several hodlers anticipate an increase in prices. On the flip side, the price may continue to drop to $8,000. Besides, if there is a push past the $8,000 support, bulls may tend to erase. The next zone to watch is the major support appearing close to the $7,650 level. On the Northside, the initial barrier is near the $8,180 and $8,200 levels. Besides, a falling trend is forming in the near term with a resistance close to $8,165 on the hourly chart of the BTC/USD pair. Willy Woo, a leading analyst for the cryptocurrency market, said the price of bitcoin may not rise again this time. Woo analyzed that Bitcoin is strangely bearish before…Nov 19, 2019
FTSE 100 has fallen by 1.56% after the Chancellor of the Exchequer (the guy on the genesis block) suddenly resigned in the midst of a cabinet reshuffle. “The PM said he had to fire all his special advisers and replace them with No 10 special advisers to make it one team. May 02, 2020 at 08:20 // News According to reports from some Bitcoin and crypto users, Twitter seems to be secretly limiting the circulation of crypto-related content as the halving nears. Although crypto content has faced similar situations in the past, Twitter’s case is especially surprising given the high level of support its founder Jack Dorsey has for digital currencies. Before reconsidering his intentions following the outbreak of the coronavirus, Jack Dorsey announced he was relocating to Africa for at least 6 months to explore opportunities for cryptocurrency development. Nevertheless, Mike Dudas, the founder of The Block, has tweeted on his page that he faced some issues while distributing his crypto-related content. They’re doing it people. Crypto Twitter has been shadow-banned. I’ve noticed this on my account this week as well. https://t.co/qkVqu8vqTw — Mike Dudas (@mdudas) April 30, 2020 Although Twitter has not formally reacted to the reports raised by cryptocurrency users relating to shadow-banning their content, such actions are ill-planned—less than two weeks into the 3rd Bitcoin halving. After yesterday’s retracement in the prices of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other top cryptocurrencies, analysts are already expecting more downside. One trader suggested that ETH is trading in a textbook broadening wedge formation that will invalidate by being broken to the downside, resulting in a correction to ~$200. “$ETH / USD H4 TF – Ethereum, we could potentially see a Broadening Formation pattern play out here,” the analyst commented in referenec to the cahrt seen below. This comes shortly after another trader explained that in failing to pass $250, ETH registered a rejection at a crucial level. The rejection arrived right where there is a technical downtrend that has constrained price action over the past year. Due to this rejection and the formation of the bearish candle, the analyst suggested that the asset could retrace to $150 come July. Such a move would mark a 35% drop from current prices.
