Yesterday, the Ethereum mining pool Sparkpool received more than 2,000 ETH (valued at $300,000), only to mine one block on the Ethereum blockchain on Tuesday, which is about 600 times of network standard block reward.

For each new trading block that adds to Ethereum blockchain, the miner will receive 3 ETH (about $500). In addition, there is a small payment to encourage miners to verify and trade new transactions into mining blocks.

Yesterday, Sparkpool received 2,103.1485 ETH at block number 7,238,290, but there was only 210 verified transactions according to data from Ethereum block explorer Blockscout.

The strange activity could be seen as a random fluke, with one Ethereum user (or perhaps multiple) accidentally attaching abnormally high transaction fees to their payments. Or it could be seen as a sign of goodwill from an anonymous supporter of the Ethereum mining community. Or it was also possible that someone attempted to “wash” money  illegally obtained through the Ethereum blockchain.

However, looking back at history, it is not surprising about such problems. As early as July 2014, due to an unexpected error in typing, a Bitcoin user added 30 Bitcoin transaction fees to the 38 Bitcoin transaction. As technology advances, despite the increased user experience, such errors are not common across the industry.
