- Bitfinex has just announced the first of two major upgrades which will completely change payments and spending habits.
- The platform’s CTO, Paolo Ardoino, confirmed that it would be now supporting Bitcoin transactions on the Lightning Network.
Bitfinex, one of the most notorious crypto platforms in the space today, has just recently announced the first of two major upgrades which will allegedly completely change the user’s payments and spending habits.
In a tweet posted earlier this week on 2nd December, the platform’s CTO, Paolo Ardoino, confirmed that it would be now supporting Bitcoin transactions on the Lightning Network (LN).
The move is a first for a big cryptocurrency platform like Bitfinex in announcing it via its updates mailing list.
So now, users will be able to benefit from instant transactions they will pay next to nothing in fees in order to send funds through the Lightning Network. The announcement comes in response appears to the first of two mystery “integrations” Bitfinex revealed on its website back in November.
“Once this feature is unlocked, crypto transactions will never be the same again,” its description reads.
Ever since the start of last year, lightning has been up and running on the Bitcoin main net. Initially designed to help increase the Bitcoin network capacity, the tool has received some big support from people such as the CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey.
Simultaneously, the use of lightning is being saved for the ‘technically minded’, as it is in its very early stage of state making it quite unusable for many crypto investors that are new to the space.
Ardoino was clear about his preferences for Bitcoin scaling:
“LN and LN assets are not only the best P2P micro-payments solution, but an impressive settlement layer for B2B.”
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. For more news on this and other crypto updates, keep it with CryptoDaily!

Ripple is facing a strong resistance near the $0.1500 region against the US Dollar. However, XRP price remains well supported above $0.1400 and it could soon start an increase towards $0.1700. Ripple price is trading in a key range above the $0.1400 support level against the US dollar. There are a few key hurdles forming near the $0.1500 and $0.1550 levels. There is a major contracting triangle forming with resistance near $0.1485 on the hourly chart of the XRP/USD pair (data source from Kraken). The price is likely to accelerate higher once it clears the $0.1485 and $0.1500 resistance levels. Ripple Price is Stuck in a Range In the past few sessions, ripple remained well bid above the $0.1320 and $0.1400 support levels. XRP price recovered further and climbed above the $0.1450 level. The bulls even pushed the price above the $0.1500 level, but they failed to gain strength. The price topped near the $0.1549 level and it remained below the 100 hourly simple moving average. There were mostly contracting range moves below the $0.1500 and $0.1550 resistance levels. Besides,…Mar 19, 2020
Blockchain advocates have hailed the recent Indian Supreme Court’s pro-crypto ruling as a landmark for adoption and development. Now, new forces are emerging that seek to put the brakes on India’s rapid embrace of cryptocurrency. COURT RULING DOES NOT FULLY RESOLVE THE ISSUE The Economic Times of India has published an article outlining the details behind the court ruling, which overturned a Royal Bank of India (RBI) circular prohibiting banks from dealing with crypto exchanges. The author points out that the court did not expressly endorse cryptocurrency. Rather, it concluded that the RBI overstepped its authority, as there is no explicit law against crypto activity. Thus, should the government pass such a law, crypto could once again be restricted. It is just such a law that the Times now calls for. Specifically, the Times advocates for a law that bans banks from dealing with cryptocurrency for five years. Thus, although some may consider this matter closed, the legal status of cryptocurrency in India remains far from settled. Late last year a draft bill was introduced in the Parliament that would…Mar 10, 2020
The central bank of China has completed the top-layer design and joint testing of its soon-to-be-released central bank digital currency (CBDC). As domestic news outlet Sina reported on Jan. 10, People’s Bank of China (PBoC) accomplished the top-layer design of the planned digital yuan, developed relevant standards, carried out research and development and a joint testing of the CBDC. The bank set forth the latest developments in a dedicated article, also highlighting plans to improve cybersecurity of the financial industry network and formulate rules for the accreditation of critical information infrastructure. First real-world tests Reports about China planning to conduct the first real-world test of its CBDC appeared in early December of last year, with the initial pilot for the CBDC set for the city of Shenzhen before the end of 2019, and may possibly include the city of Suzhou. Within the tests, China’s CBDC was expected to go beyond the central bank system and enter service scenarios such as transportation, education and medical treatment, among others. Earlier this month, PBoC reported smooth progress with the digital yuan. Encryption standards…Jan 10, 2020
Bitcoin’s price action at the end of 2019 was largely unexpected; the 40% surge towards $10,000 then the subsequent crash to the $6,000s caught many with their pants down, so to speak. But, there was at least one trader who called this turn of events: Filb Filb, a pseudonymous cryptocurrency trader known for making some crazy accurate calls, including a forecast of a ~$3,000 price bottom in the 2018 bear market. In October 2019, he published the chart on the left, which shows that his estimation was for BTC to surge vertically to the $9,000s, then plunge to the low- to mid-$6,000s by December, to only recover back to $9,000 by January or February of this year. Twitter Facebook reddit Pinterest Hacker News LinkedIn Tumblr Google+ VKontakte Monetary Authority of Singapore, in a recent statement, has proposed green-lighting crypto-token derivatives to list and trade on approved domestic exchanges. The proposal suggests that derivatives trading be regulated under the Securities and Futures Act. MAS to Regulate Derivatives Trading The global race for crypto derivatives is accelerating as institutional investors are earnestly finding new ways to hedge their funds and make profits. Furthermore, Giant U.S. bourse operators CME Group Inc. and Intercontinental Exchange Inc. which are already in the business of offering cryptocurrency derivatives are all set to introduce other products in a few months. As a matter of fact, the CME platform will allow options trading from early 2020. “MAS’s proposal will allow approved exchanges in Singapore to meet the need of investors to manage their exposure to payment tokens while bringing the activity under regulatory oversight,” the regulator said in the statement. Interestingly, Singapore Exchange Derivatives Trading Ltd., a local unit of Atlanta-based ICE, and Asia Pacific Exchange are among the MAS-approved venues. However, none of them…Nov 20, 2019
In a rare instance of cooperation, Google and Apple, two pillars of the global tech industry, announced a joint effort to create a COVID-19 exposure tracing application for mobile phones in conjunction with world governments. The app, which is set to be available on both Android and iOS phones, relies on Bluetooth technology to warn against potential exposure to a person infected with COVID-19. Due to its participating organizations, all three of which have shoddy track-records on privacy, the application immediately raised the suspicions of privacy proponents. The Electronic Frontier Foundation, a staunch supporter of digital privacy, posed questions to developers and implored them to question the cybersecurity and privacy implications of the joint contact-tracing app. Google and Apple responded by tinkering with the tracing keys and encryption of the application to improve privacy, but questions still linger. In particular, many of the benefits of the contact-tracing app are stifled by simple logistical problems like Bluetooth not being designed for contact-tracing (can’t delineate between disease and distance); many people don’t carry Bluetooth-compatible cell phones; and most people won’t voluntarily download…May 14, 2020
Jeff Bezos appears to be interested in purchasing an NFL team should one come up for sale. The Seahawks are likely to come on the market, making for a great fit with Bezos’ strong ties to Seattle. Bezos’ leadership style and strong presence in Seattle could be a boon for the team in the coming decade. Rumors are flying that Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos wants to buy an NFL team. During the Super Bowl last February, Bezos was seen enjoying the view from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s suite. He’s also been spotted spending time with other team owners, which has further spurred on speculation. As the richest man in the world, Bezos could afford to pay cash for any team in the league but unfortunately none of them are currently up for sale. Speculation linking Bezos to the Seahawks is alive and well. | Source: Twitter However, many expect the Seattle Seahawks to eventually go up for sale after the team’s owner Paul Allen died last year. There’s also a chance that the Denver Broncos could come on…Nov 13, 2019
Back in 2017 when new and exciting crypto projects were emerging on the scene a shill here or there could make all the difference. Some called it market manipulation and in a way it was; an artificial pump to inflate prices which subsequently dumped again. Today’s scene is very different so there needs to be a lot more meat behind any bold claims. Weiss: Cardano Beats EOS In a recent tweet, Weiss Crypto Ratings has pumped Cardano today causing a heated reaction as crypto tribalism bears its teeth. There was very little in the way of explanation for the shill in that particular tweet other than the promise of further details. “Cardano is clearly superior to EOS. EOS was first to market, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that of the two, Cardano is vastly superior. More details on this in subsequent tweets.” #Cardano is clearly superior to #EOS. Engineers and developers are continuously working to provide Bitcoin with technological improvements. Now, most likely, the next Bitcoin technological breakthrough will come through the Schnorr + Taproot soft fork. Greater Scalability, Fungibility, and Script Innovation According to Bitcoin Optech contributor Steve Lee, the Schnorr + Taproot soft fork proposal offers “a whole new world of possibilities.” Specifically, the proposal promises to provide Bitcoin with greater scalability for multi-signature applications or complex smart contracts that may have several different ways to spend the cryptocurrency. The Schnorr algorithm provides a simple way of structuring crypto signatures. Therefore, it can significantly enhance the efficiency of validating Bitcoin transactions. According to Lee, Schnorr Signatures are 11 percent smaller than existing methods. Schnorr Signatures are better than the currently used Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA). And they allow the tweaking of signatures and keys, which facilitates the creation of innovative business solutions. Additionally, Schnorr Signatures are compatible with existing private keys. Thus, with this proposal, most limitations regarding the number of scripts that can be used to spend digital coins disappear. Schnorr Signatures Make…Oct 7, 2019
