ErisX Brings Physically-Settled Ethereum Futures to the US » The Merkle News
Futures trading is a very popular and prominent market in the financial sector. With the help of ErisX, speculators can be exposed to Ethereum’s price through CFTC-regulated and physically-settled ETH futures contracts.
There is more to the cryptocurrency industry than just Bitcoin.
A big Milestone for ErisX
Ethereum has carved out a solid position in this industry over the years.
That is also reflected in its market cap, which sits comfortably above $20 billion.
Gaining exposure to this crypto asset without actually holding Ether has proven to be difficult at times.
ErisX acknowledges there is a market segment to tap into.
Following official approval by the CFTC, the company will provide physically-settled ETH futures contracts to American traders.
For ErisX, the Ether futures trading segment can prove to be quite valuable.
It is, after all, the second crypto derivatives product available in the US.
Not everyone wants to be exposed to Bitcoin, whereas Ethereum seems to generate a lot more media buzz in recent times.
For nearly a year, ETH futures have been rumored to launch in the US fairly soon.
ErisX has spent a lot of time making this happen, as delays were introduced due to a lack of regulatory clarification on how Ethereum would be classified.

While headlines about tanking bitcoin prices serve ideal opportunities for investors to enter the cryptocurrency market, one top analyst thinks the asset is lacking new buyers.Alex Saunders, the CEO & Founder of Australia-based Nugget News, offered a wave of discouraging catalysts that might have driven people out of cryptocurrencies, including a wrecked US job report. More than three million Americans filed for unemployment last week, providing first-hand information about how the Coronavirus pandemic is affecting the US economy.“A downside is [now] likely for stocks & crypto,” asserted Mr. Saunders. “I’m predicting it by next week. Are new investors entering crypto? I’m not convinced.”The statements suggested a potential drop in bitcoin’s retail demand as jobless people turn to cash as their last resort amidst a pandemic. Meanwhile, institutional investors are also reducing their exposure in the cryptocurrency market for cash liquidity: to cover their margin calls or just hold it near to find buying opportunities in a wider bearish market.Buying Sentiment on HoldBitcoin has long enjoyed the status of an offbeat, non-correlated asset that could behave as safe-haven for investors in…Mar 28, 2020

Bitcoin (BTC) has projected some strength recently which is being touted as the beginning of a new bullish cycle by most retail bulls. More traders and analysts are beginning to think that considering the recent move scared off many of the retail bears who are very quiet all of a sudden. However, in this market the majority of traders tend to forget how certain things happen over and over again. If we look at the daily chart for BTC/USD, we can see that it has faced a clear rejection at the 50-day moving average. However, most retail bulls seem unconcerned by this as they still eye further upside. If the price makes a fake move past the 50 Day EMA, many more will buy into the hype and FOMO into the market. The point is, very few will realize that such patterns have been seen before in the past just before a crippling crash. It was in the last few months of 2018 that we saw the price trade for a while below the 50-day moving average. While it did that,…Jan 5, 2020
Bitcoin’s upcoming mining rewards halving has long been looked upon as a fundamental event that would help bolster its underlying strength and catalyze some immense upwards price action. This sentiment has been largely rooted in historical precedent, as the benchmark cryptocurrency has long seen immense bull-favoring volatility in the time directly preceding and following this event. It doesn’t seem as though the same can be said for the halving that is occurring in just a few weeks from now, however, as this is the first time in Bitcoin’s decade-long history that it is entering the halving with a negative 90-day return.Bitcoin’s Halving Fast Approaches and Investors are Taking NoticeAt the time of writing, Bitcoin’s mining rewards halving is slated to occur in a mere 25 days, taking place on May 12th.This event cuts the rewards that traders receive for producing blocks in half, subsequently decreasing the cryptocurrency’s annual inflation from 3.65% currently to 1.8% after the event takes place. The halving is an integral part of Bitcoin being a deflationary currency and shines a spotlight on the importance of its existence against a…Apr 17, 2020
A team of academics at the University of Cape Town in South Africa is developing a blockchain-powered application that will allow users to verify their own COVID-19 status. It’s being developed by a team of academics and software developers in Cape Town and is aiming to launch on April 21.The application intends to improve contact tracing of infected patients, while users of the platform will be able to provide a verified COVID-19 status. Additionally, the app will reward people for responsible behavior, like remaining at home during lockdown periods. Covi-ID is being built on permissioned blockchain platform Sovrin, which is a self-sovereign identity network. The primary goal is to give users ownership over their data while providing accurate information relating to COVID-19 infection hotspots to ecosystem participants. This South African project is not the first to be exploring the use of a mobile application to improve contact tracing. Over the next decade, the Congressional Budget Office predicts US government debt will rise to levels not seen since the 1940s. The irresponsible fiscal policy is another example of the current system’s shortcomings when compared to immutable crypto assets. With the government forecast to spend $1 trillion more than it collects in taxes each year, the institution sees debt held by the public reaching 98 percent of GDP by 2030. Some believe such policies make widespread adoption of a global currency free from government manipulation an inevitability. US Debt Growing by TrillionsAccording to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the US government is expected to spend $1.28 for every $1 it takes in taxes over the next year. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicts that the deficit will be at its highest point since 1946 by the decade’s end.The CBO bases its figures on current spending and levels of taxation. After over two weeks of decline, a series of notable movements have converged to push the crypto markets higher. Whereas market volatility remains the norm, today’s gains serve to assuage fears that the market recovery has stalled. Bitcoin Futures Have ExpiredA round of Bitcoin futures has recently expired on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). Although much has been made of the impact of futures on the Bitcoin market, the price tends to go up shortly after expirations.Interest in futures continues to reach record highs, clearly indicating a strong desire by investors to take advantage of Bitcoin’s predicted 2020 gains. In February, CME futures topped USD $1 Billion for only the third time ever, with crypto analysts already expecting a price spike as a result. On the subject, the CME tweeted: CME Bitcoin futures (BTC) open interest reached a record high of over 6.6K contracts on February 19 and nearly 300 new trading accounts were added this year, as of February 24. https://t.co/EU3e7nyh5B pic.twitter.com/38SlA3qvpg— CME Group (@CMEGroup) February 26, 2020 CME is also not the only futures exchange to be experiencing…Mar 6, 2020
